The Clutha Region
Clutha is a great place to achieve work/life balance. With stunning scenery, vibrant thriving communities and plenty of space it’s life at a slower southern pace.
Known as Big River Town, Balclutha sits on the banks of the mighty Clutha River as it winds its way towards the sea. Balclutha is an hour’s drive south of Dunedin and two hour’s drive to scenic Central Otago. Balclutha provides agricultural services to dairy and sheep farming and is home to the Silver Fern Farms Finegand Meat processing plant, Fonterra Cheese factory at nearby Stirling and timber processing. Other industrial activities include general engineering and construction.
Balclutha township has a strong retail centre servicing the primary sector as well as general shopping, boutique stores and cafes. A Carnegie library, strong arts centre and theatrical society support the arts in the region. Sports has always been a big part of life in the region, in particular rugby and netball. Clutha Health First is centrally located within Balclutha, close to the shopping centre and other amenities.
